- Appreciate and Embrace ‘diversity’- Explore how different we are as human beings. These are then linked to the various strands of diversity which are currently covered by Employment Legislation.
- Explore Basic Assumptions, Prejudice and Stereotyping - Demonstrates how our values play a vital role when faced with any situation which may lead to prejudging an individual on initial contact – Basic Assumption Model.
- Identifying our own prejudices - Explore our values, opinions and dislikes.
- Understand what is meant by discrimination and its potential costs- Identify the 4 ways in which our personal dislikes can manifest themselves in unfair treatment of others. Explore scenarios that reflect current trends and working practices within your workforce.
- Identify individual responsibilities and duties under Equalities Legislation – Consider the main elements of unequal treatment and their definitions as stated under the Equalities Legislation.
- Recognise the importance of communication and feedback - Recognise how important communication is with regard to identifying and challenging inappropriate behaviour.
- Relate the effects of discrimination to ‘Allport’s scale’ - This useful model demonstrates how prejudice can escalate if unchecked. To relate the elements of ‘Allport’s Scale’ to the world today, the workplace, schools and relationships with others.
- Summary and conclusion - This will include opportunities for delegates to summarize learning action plan.
